In July this year he was invited to attend the Department of Science and Technology’s national science week at the University of Fort Hare where he was afforded the opportunity of presenting it to the Deputy Minister of Science and Technology, Derek Hanekom. The minister was so impressed by the project that he asked Madambi to contact him with a view to involving the department in the project.

Similar responses have followed from Dr Ntsika Msimang of the African Institute of Science and Technology (AIST) and the South African Agency for Science and Technology Advancement (SAASTA).

In the first issue, Madambi is inspired by Daphney Singo who delivered a speech in February this year at the Technology, Entertainment and Design conference in the USA. Her story about how science had transformed her from a poor South African village girl into a world respected nuclear physicist resulted in a Google executive donating R7.8 million to Singo to promote and improve science and mathematics skills in rural communities in South Africa. What’s more, Singo is now the first female patron of Madambi’s magazine.
